Vintage Oil Lamp, Amber Brown Glass, Rustic Metal Burner, Sail Boat Brand, Rattan Basket, Raised Relief, Nautical Theme, Home Decor

$154.00 $192.50

The gorgeous "SAIL BOAT BRAND" amber-brown glass oil/kerosene lamp and woven rattan basket-bottom are in good to very good condition. The bottom of the glass lamp has "SAIL BOAT BRAND MADE IN HONG KONG" on the inside of the round foot of the base. Also, the small round adjustment knob on the side has "MADE IN HONG KONG" around its outer edge. The knob runs through the center of the rustic gold-colored metal burner where it is used for adjusting a wick up or down. In order to put fuel in the amber-brown glass lamp, the metal burner must be unscrewed and lifted off the threads of the glass rim. Below the rim, there is a beautiful raised relief pattern which is strikingly similar to symbols depicting constellations which are used as navigation-lights in the night sky. For example, the raised relief pattern appears to be depicting giant stars as circles surrounded by small dots which are interconnected with other lines around the top of the lamp. While it is hard to be absolutely certain, the constellation motif for celestial navigation would be very consistent with the "SAIL BOAT BRAND". According to references, celestial navigation uses the stars to plot and stay on course. While the top of the lamp has a constellation motif, the outer - more flat - side has a relief running around the body of the lamp depicting stained-glass windows with an "X" at their center. As can be seen in the photos, the alternating red and green window colors wrapping around the lamp give the impression of movement and/or resemble the stained-glass windows often found in churches. Even though many of the colors that once adorned the surface of this beautiful lamp have worn away with age and handling, the remaining colors continue to capture the attention. In addition to the rustic and aged metal burner and beautiful amber-brown glass body, it is important to appreciate the accompanying woven rattan basket-bottom. While it is hard to be for certain about whether or not the basket was originally offered with the lamp, there is no doubt that the stunning beauty of the woven rattan basket further adds to the already aesthetically attractive "SAIL BOAT BRAND" oil/kerosene lamp. At first glance, the Rhombus-shaped gray and orange motif woven into the basket might appear to be closer to a Southwestern than Far East Asian pattern. However, it is important to remember that there are similar patterns found in cultures throughout the world.

Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the mug in the photos is not included with this listing as it was used for scale purposes only. In addition, there is no wick or chimney with this "SAIL BOAT BRAND" oil/kerosene lamp.

There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous "SAIL BOAT BRAND" oil/kerosene lamp. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the lamp - mainly in the form of an aged and rustic patina on the metal burner along with distress and wear on the stained-glass accent colors on the amber-glass lamp. As can be seen in the photos, some of the painted on accents have worn away with age and wear most likely from handling. Also, even though the amber-brown glass section has been lightly washed with soap and water both inside and out, there are still some remnants of dried oil/fuel on the interior of the lamp. While the remnants still have a very faint odor - mainly noticeable up-close when the metal burner is removed, it is possible that by allowing a different cleaning solution to soak inside the lamp for a period of time the remaining remnants might be completely removed. In addition, the round turn knob used to extend a wick on the metal burner appears to be in very good working condition.

There are no holes or repair places on or inside the woven rattan basket-bottom. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub places on the basket - mainly in the form of distress and age. Also, there is some discoloration from remnants of fuel soaking into the surface of the interior floor of the basket. While the basket has been lightly washed, some of the discoloration remains on the inside floor of the basket.

The decorative possibilities for this aged and distressed "SAIL BOAT BRAND" amber-glass oil/kerosene lamp are many. The china cabinet or display case would be enhanced by the addition of this celestial-navigation theme accent lamp with its woven rattan basket-bottom. Also, the open collectibles shelf or bookcase would welcome this incredibly attractive oil/kerosene lamp for its aged and distressed character, rustic metal burner, and warm nautical charm. In addition, the growing collection of glass and/or accent lamps would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this "SAIL BOAT BRAND" amber-brown glass oil/kerosene lamp and woven rattan basket-bottom.

The collector will appreciate this gorgeous "SAIL BOAT BRAND" amber-brown glass oil lamp for its very good condition, raised relief accents, constellation/celestial navigation theme, warm nautical charm, distressed and rustic metal burner, woven rattan basket-bottom, and beautiful overall appearance.

The beautiful "SAIL BOAT BRAND" amber-brown glass lamp with its metal burner and woven rattan basket-bottom weighs approximately 14 oz.

The gorgeous "SAIL BOAT BRAND" amber-brown glass oil/kerosene lamp with the woven rattan basket-bottom measures approximately 5.5" tall to the top of the metal burner x 5" wide in diameter across the bottom of the woven rattan basket.

The beautifully accented amber-brown glass section without the woven rattan basket measures approximately 3.75" tall to the top of the amber glass rim or 5.25" tall to the top of the metal burner x 3.25" wide in diameter across the round foot of the base x 1.5" wide in diameter across the rim from outside to outside with an opening measurement of approximately 1.25" across from inside to inside.

The round section where a chimney would sit measures approximately 2 3/16" wide in diameter across from inside to inside (the 2 3/16" measurement is on the safer side so that a chimney would have less chance of cracking from the fit being too tight.

The slot where a wick would come through measures approximately 7/8" wide from inside to inside.

The circumference of the amber-brown glass section measures approximately 13 5/8" around the paneled "X" section.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
