Vintage Skotch Cooler, Cold Flyte, Distressed & Rustic, Sheet Metal, Aluminum Handle, Advertising Collectible, Red and Off White, Home Decor

$142.80 $178.50

The distressed and aged Hamilton-Skotch COLD - FLYTE COOLER is in good condition. The original screw-on lid along with the removable drinking cup is included with the cooler. Also, the black plastic spigot and spigot handle are fully intact. When the black plastic handle is turned outward, the black spigot also turns outward. While it is possible that the cooler could be used to hold water or some other drink, it is being offered in this listing as a decorative collectible. The original stickers - albeit distressed and aged - are still intact on the cooler. While the lower spigot sticker has the "Hamilton-Skotch" logo, the larger rectangular sticker above has "COLD - FLYTE COOLER" over "THE Hamilton Skotch CORP. HAMILTON, OHIO" across its center along with a very tiny "L 1322-66" at its right outer edge. Also, each label is accented with the beautiful Red Tartan Plaid pattern which was very popular during the mid-century era. Another interesting design feature on this COLD - FLYTE COOLER is the silverish-gray handle. Each end of the bent aluminum handle is secured to the sheet metal body via a metal fastener. The elongated squares on the aluminum handle are in a Diamond Rhombus Check design. While it is possible this metal cooler could be refinished, the rustic and distressed - nearly 70 year-old finish provides a testimony to the quality and craftsmanship found on Hamilton-Skotch products. While its hard to be absolutely certain, the shape and design of this cooler is very consistent with those produced circa 1950's. According to references, after already having a foothold in the tackle-box market, the Hamilton-Skotch Corporation decided to expand its product line by producing minnow buckets as a way to increase revenue. However, the minnow bucket market already had a lot of competitors so it failed to sell well. Hence, the Hamilton-Skotch Corporation decided to use the "bucket" shape for a new line of coolers. The unique "bucket" shape of the particular COLD - FLYTE COOLER in this listing not only makes it very aesthetically attractive but it also gives it historical collectability. While it is difficult for most in this present-day to imagine the peculiar mystique that would have surrounded the shape of this cooler, it would certainly be helpful if one could somehow be transported back to a day when "bucket" shaped coolers did not exist. According to references, the Hamilton-Skotch "bucket" shaped coolers were a difficult "sell" at first because the dominant cooler form that existed during that time period was in the shape of a rectangle.

Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the mug in the photos is not included in this listing as it was used for scale purposes only. In addition, it is important to note that the aging gasket (s) on the spigot may need replaced at some point in the future.

There is a very shallow ding-like area on the bottom in front of the small round foot near the spigot along with a shallow dent on the back of the cooler near the bottom. Other than this, there are no breaks, holes, dents, or repair places on this Hamilton-Skotch COLD - FLYTE COOLER. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the cooler - mainly in the form of surface rust, rustic patina, distress, and wear. While the white interior has been washed out, the plastic is slightly discolored due to age. Also, while the bent aluminum handle is in very good condition, it does have some vintage wear and rub places on it - mainly on or near the top of the handle.

The decorative possibilities for this distressed and aged Hamilton-Skotch COLD - FLYTE COOLER are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeously distressed and aged 1950's cooler. Also, the kitchen, den, or home-office would welcome this Hamilton-Skotch cooler for its aesthetically attractive red and off-white to beige color palette, unique Mid-Century charm, and historical collectability. In addition, the growing collection of advertising and industrial souvenirs would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this very unique "bucket" shaped Hamilton-Skotch COLD - FLYTE COOLER.

The collector will appreciate this aged and distressed Hamilton-Skotch cooler for its good condition, rustic-camp character, historical collectability, unique Mid-Century charm, and overall gorgeous appearance.

The aged and distressed Hamilton-Skotch COLD - FLYTE COOLER weighs approximately 30 oz.

The gorgeously distressed and aged Hamilton-Skotch COLD - FLYTE COOLER measures approximately 9 5/8" tall to the top of the red plastic screw-on lid or 11.5" tall to the top of the raised aluminum handle x 8" wide in diameter across the bottom from outside to outside.

The rim section measures approximately 4.25" wide in diameter across the threads from outside to outside with an opening measurement of approximately 3 3/8" across from inside to inside.

The interior measures approximately 8 1/16" deep from the top edge of the rim down to the inner floor.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
