The rustic and distressed primitive hand-held harvest sickle-blade tool is in descent condition. The metal blade and ribbed neck are in good to very good condition. While it might be possible to sharpen the blade and put this old harvest tool to work, it is being offered in this listing as a decorative collectible. The well-worn and distressed wooden handle appears to have been painted more than once. The remnants of the black and white colors on the handle are very reminiscent of early 1900's farm implements. Even though there are no discernible identification or date marks on this harvest tool, the four-way screwheads used to mount the blade to the neck are consistent with fasteners made from the early to mid 1900's. The ribbed steel neck along with the collar, wooden handle, and butt fastener appear to be more consistent with a production-line assembly instead of one-off custom blacksmithing. Another nice feature found on this aged and worn harvest sickle-blade tool is the pre-drilled blade holes. The pre-drilled holes located on each end of the blade make it much easier to safely and securely display this sickle-blade tool on a wall.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
As can be seen in the photos, the wooden handle is very worn and distressed with a only tiny bit of play that is mainly noticeable when the handle is turned. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, or repair places on either the blade or the ribbed neck. The butt fastener and the round collar at the top of the wooden handle are very intact. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on this gorgeously distressed and worn harvest sickle-blade tool - mainly in the form of rustic distress and pitting in the metal along with wear on the handle. There are remnants of orange near the upper rolled-edge of the blade along with black and white on the worn and distressed wooden handle. In addition, it is important to note that this collectible harvest sickle-blade tool has been lightly washed with soap and water. Hence, it is clean to the touch. The sheen-like appearance of the metal is due to WD-40 being sprayed over the metal after its initial washing.
The decorative possibilities for this worn and distressed handheld harvest sickle-blade tool are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this worn and aged handheld harvest tool. Also, the man-cave or den would welcome this gorgeous harvest sickle-blade tool for its rustic-brown patina and country-farmhouse charm. In addition, the growing collection of old tools would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this worn and distressed handheld harvest sickle-blade tool.
The collector will appreciate this worn and distressed harvest sickle-blade tool for its descent condition, rustic-brown patina, country-farmhouse charm, and aged overall appearance.
The collectible harvest sickle-blade tool weighs approximately 8 oz.
The worn and distressed primitive handheld harvest sickle-blade tool measures approximately 17.5" from the tip of the blade to the butt of the wooden handle.
The curved sickle blade measures approximately 12" in length x 2.75" wide where it mounts to the neck.
The wooden handle measures approximately 4 5/8" in length.
The ribbed neck measures approximately 5" in length following the curvature of the steel.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
