The gorgeously distressed and rustic antique iron scythe is in good to very good condition. While the serrated blade still has a very good edge, this dual-handled sling-blade sickle scythe is being offered in this listing as a decorative collectible. As can be seen in the photos, the dark brownish-red rustic blade has a beautifully aged and pitted appearance that is consistent over its entire surface. The two golden-brown worn and distressed wooden handles are held in place by a round metal ferrule. While there are no discernible marks of identification on this old iron scythe, the talented blacksmithing that went into bending and shaping the iron along with cutting out the serrated-edges is simply incredible. Furthermore, on the backside of the top handle, there is a diagonal area in the iron that shows where an additional piece of iron was added during the production of the scythe - it is mainly noticeable due to the slightly different color of the iron at the back of the handle.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the sledgehammer in the photos is not included with this listing as it was used for scale purposes only.
Each of the wooden handles have a small stress crack along with wear and distress. Also, each of the small metal ferrules have tiny stress cracks in a couple of areas that are most likely due to the stress placed on the handles during previous use. However, the handles along with their ferrules are still intact. In addition, while it is hard to see with the eye, the tip end has been slightly blunted and could quite easily be sharpened out if so desired. Other than this, there are are no cracks, breaks, chips, or repair places on this collectible industrial farmhouse tool. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on this antique dual-handled scythe - mainly in the form of distress, wear, and age. Also, the aged iron has consistent pitting over its surface. As previously noted, some of the sections on the serrated blade still have quite a sharp cutting-edge. It is important to note that the slight sheen and/or darker/wet-like finish of the iron is due to the scythe receiving a simple coating of WD-40 to prevent against rust and/or moisture on the recently cleaned iron.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeously distressed and rustic antique iron scythe are many. The entryway or living area would be enhanced by the addition of this rustic brownish-red dual-handle sickle blade scythe. Also, the man-cave or home office would welcome this gorgeously distressed and rustic antique scythe for its aggressive shape and industrial farmhouse charm. In addition, the growing collection of old tools would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this antique sickle blade scythe.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeously distressed and rustic antique scythe for its good to very good condition, dark brownish-red serrated blade, aggressive shape, intact wooden handles, industrial farmhouse charm, and attractive overall appearance.
The gorgeously distressed and rustic antique iron scythe weighs approximately 61 oz.
The dual-handle curved iron sickle-scythe measures approximately 36.25" in total length from the tip of the blade to the back of the handle or 35.75" not including the back half of the rear handle.
Each of the worn and distressed wooden handles measure approximately 4" in length from the outside of each handle to the back of each metal ferrule x 1.25"wide across.
The serrated section of the blade measures approximately 19.5" in length from the tip of the blade back to the rear of the last serrated-edge x 2 5/8" tall in the tallest area at the rear of the last serrated-edge.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
