The collectible hardback pioneer novel entitled "The Deerslayer" by James Fenimore Cooper is in descent to good condition. Even though the inner pages have quite a bit of discoloration "yellowing", they are still very readable. While the burgundy-red covers and gold trim have a gorgeously distressed and aged appearance that are very consistent with antique books, this particular edition was most likely published circa 1920's. According to references, this particular title belongs to a series called the "Leatherstocking Tales" and was first written circa 1841. Admittedly, at first glance and with the help of some references it might seem natural to believe this is an actual First Edition. Furthermore, the publisher - J.H. Sears & Company Incorporated - which has supposedly only published a very limited amount of works are recognized as the original publisher in 1841. However, one of the front pages in this book has the Kingsport Press listed as the company that printed and bound the book. Since the Kingsport Press started in the early 1920's, this undated edition of "The Deerslayer" by James Finimore Cooper was most likely reprinted as a special edition for a large department store - quite possibly Woolworth's since the family had ties with Kingsport Press. While the book has the wonderful appeal of older novels, it also has a much older setting - circa 1750's. According to references, the book is regarded for its portrayal of the courage and perseverance of the pioneering "spirit". While "The Deerslayer" may not be as recognizable in the present day as another novel written by James Finimore Cooper entitled "The Last of the Mohicans", "The Deerslayer" was so popular in the earlier to middle part of the twentieth-century that two films bearing the name hit the big screen - the first aired in 1957 and the second in 1978.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the Chap-Stick in the photos is not included in this listing as it was used for scale purposes only.
There are two pages in the back that have tears. Also, there is a name penciled in two places inside the front of the book. Other than this, there are no breaks, loose sections, or repair places on this collectible hardback pioneer novel entitled "The Deerslayer". There is vintage distress, age, and wear on the book. Also, the inner pages are discolored and have the "yellowing" appearance. In addition, while every page was not inspected, there does not appear to be any additional pen, pencil, or highlighter marks inside the book.
The decorative possibilities for this collectible hardback pioneer novel entitled "The Deerslayer" are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this burgundy-red and gold trimmed pioneer novel. Also, the den, man-cave, or hunting lodge would welcome this collectible hardback pioneer book for its smaller compact size and motivational subject matter. In addition, the growing collection of old books would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this collectible James Finimore Cooper novel entitled "The Deerslayer".
The collector will appreciate this gorgeously distressed and aged hardback novel entitled "The Deerslayer" for its descent to good condition, setting of the book circa 1750's, rich burgundy-red and gold colors, motivational subject matter, and older appearance.
The distressed and aged burgundy-red and gold hardback book weighs approximately 6 oz.
The collectible hardback pioneer novel entitled "The Deerslayer" by James Fenimore Cooper measures approximately 6 9/16" tall x 4 1/8" wide x .75" thick.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
