The collectible Yamatar 8 x 40 binoculars with their distressed and worn brown leather strap are in very good condition. The distressed and worn brown leather case and strap are in descent condition. While at first glance the exterior of the leather case might appear to be ostrich skin, the tiny dot pattern is most likely due to a tooling process. As can be seen in the photos, there are two larger-end gold-colored Yamatar lens covers included with these gorgeous binoculars. The bottom of the tooled leather case has "JAPAN" stamped into the leather. While its hard to be for sure of the exact date of production, since they do not say "Made in Occupied Japan" indicates they were made after circa 1952. Furthermore, references indicate that these gorgeous Yamatar binoculars were produced circa 1960's-1970's. While the binoculars are slightly distressed around the frames of the larger lens' end, the pebbled black leather or leather-like wrap along with the rest of the jet black body are impeccably fresh for being half of a century old. The information in white and red shows "YAMATAR FULLY COATED OPTICS No T 52911" on the left shoulder area with "8 X 40 FLYWEIGHT FIELD VIEW AT 1000YDS:358FT" on the right. Along with the degree marks around 60 and 70 at the center hinge, there are also marks around the right eye piece. The marks range from +2 to -2. Also, it is important to note the incredible clarity when looking through the lenses. They have been tested for both up-close and far-away viewing and they do not disappoint. In addition, the pebbled leather or leather-like wrap makes them very comfortable to hold and adjust too. Another important feature worth noting on these collectible Yamatar binoculars is the fact that besides the pebbled leather or leather-like wrap around the body, the majority of the frame appears to be aluminum. Even more, the only areas that were magnetic are located near the center of each shoulder section as if they had something metal/steel behind them. Surprisingly, the round eye-piece ends also appear to be aluminum instead of plastic.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the case strap will be rolled up inside the case for shipping.
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on these gorgeous Yamatar 8 x 40 binoculars. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the binoculars - mainly in the form of distress around the larger aluminum ends. Also, under magnification the outer edge of the right eye lens shows some imperfections near the edge of the lower right of the glass lens from where it was originally cut out. In addition, the front right lens has a very subtle rub-like area near the right (inside) of the lens that at first glance appears to be a smudge. This does not affect the field of view. Furthermore, it is very hard to notice unless slowly inspecting the lens up-close with a light. Also, there are are signs of vintage wear and age on the round gold-colored lens covers. In addition, the brown leather binocular strap does show signs of distress and wear but appears to be very intact and not dried out.
The brownish-orange or orange brown leather case does show signs of wear and age - mainly around the top and bottom edge. Also, the snap button closure is missing. In addition, the strap to the case shows signs of distress and wear. Even more, the case strap has an area near the end that has torn away - approximately 7.5" from the end. Finally, while the beautiful red interior of the case does have some rub marks along with a few areas of discoloration, the velvety red material is in remarkably good condition.
The decorative possibilities for these gorgeous Yamatar binoculars along with their distressed and worn brown leather case are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of these incredibly gorgeous Yamatar 8 x 40 binoculars with their original leather case. Also, the man-cave or home office area would welcome these collectible binoculars for their jet-black aluminum frame and black pebbled wrap along with their distressed brownish-orange leather case. In addition, the growing collection of binoculars and field-glasses would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of these Japanese made Yamatar 8 x 40 binoculars.
The collector will appreciate these gorgeous Yamatar binoculars for their very good condition, distressed and worn original brown leather case, velvety red case interior, jet-black aluminum frame, black pebbled leather or leather-like wrap, multiple adjustment options, Japanese production, and attractive overall appearance.
The collectible Yamatar 8 x 40 binoculars in their distressed and worn brown leather case weigh approximately 37 oz.
The distressed and worn brown leather case measures approximately 6.25" tall x 7.25" wide from outside to outside x 3 3/8" deep from front to back.
The distressed and worn leather strap on the case at its longest would stands approximately 17" above the top of the lid if the strap was pierced with a hole to connect the other end.
At its closest adjustment the rear eye pieces measure approximately 3.25" from outside to outside while the front lenses measures 6.25" from outside of housing to outside of housing.
At its widest adjustment the rear eye pieces measure approximately 4.25" from outside to outside while the front lenses measures 7" from outside of housing to outside of housing.
The distressed and worn non-adjustable brown leather strap on the binoculars measures approximately 34" in total length.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
