Vintage Fly Rod, Early Fuji, Cork Handle, Bamboo Wood, Five Pieces, Wooden Box, Oriental Writing, Tokyo Japan, Home Decor, Brown Collectible

$138.80 $173.50

The collectible Fuji five-section fly rod set in the original wooden box is in very good to great condition. The distressed and discolored original wooden box is in good condition. While the characters on the side of the wooden box have not been translated, the mountain-shaped identification mark on the handle-section just above the cork shows that it was produced by Fuji and made in Tokyo, Japan. The five sections inside the original wooden box include one lower "handle" section, one rod end section that is heavier and fits directly into the lower "handle" section, two lighter-weight rod ends, and one center section to be used with either of the two lighter-weight rod ends. Also, the two lighter-weight rod ends appear to be identical. Hence, there can either be one two-section fly rod measuring approximately 64" or a three-section fly rod measuring approximately 96" or 8 feet in length. As can be seen in the photos, there are small empty sections on the underside of the wooden lid. According to references, these would have originally held tackle including sinkers, floaters, flies, etc. While its hard to be for certain, the sections appear to be made from Bamboo wood. Besides the chrome and cork section of the handle, each of the sections are in a coppery-brown color encircled with a tiny gold-colored wrap with red sections trimmed in green around the eyelets. While there are some areas of slight distress on the rod sections, they do not have wear that is consistent with them being used to any great extent. Along with this, the cork handle is incredibly well-preserved. Furthermore, while the close-up photos show a patina on the surface of the chrome, it is most likely due to age rather than handling because the patina is consistent over the surface of the chrome. Finally, it is important to note that the more basic mountain-shaped Fuji identification mark above the handle has the appearance of an earlier - more basic - Fuji mark. According to references, this fly rod set with its original box would have been brought to America by a serviceman returning home sometime after WWII.

Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.

There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on any of the five fly rod sections. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the sections - mainly in the form of slight distress and/or discoloration from aging. Also, all of the eyes are fully intact on the five sections. In addition, as previously noted, the surface of the chrome has a developing patina. Along with this, the adjustable ring around the threaded chrome section could use a shot of lubricant to make it easier to turn.

While the original wooden box is in good condition, there are areas of distress, wear, and discoloration on the box. Also, upon close inspection it appears that an outer panel of wood has been glued or re-glued to the frame at some point in the past. In addition, while it does not bleed through to the inside, there is a darker discoloration on the lid that has a very slight lubricant-like odor that is faintly noticeable if its placed directly under the nose. Also, while they might be harder to see in the photos, the hinges are fully intact and in good working condition. However, one of the front closures is missing.

The decorative possibilities for this collectible Fuji five-section fly rod set with its original box are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this mid-century sporting goods collectible. Also, the entryway area or man-cave would welcome this gorgeous Bamboo fly rod mounted on the wall or hanging from the ceiling. In addition, the growing vintage sporting goods and/or fishing pole collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this early Fuji five-section fly rod set with its original wooden box.

The collector will appreciate this incredibly gorgeous coppery-brown Fuji five-section fly rod set in its original wooden box for its very good to great condition, included original box with what appears to be Japanese characters, likely earlier Fuji identification mark, apparent mid-century era production, genuine wood sections, post WWII arrival in America, and attractive overall appearance.

The wooden Fuji fly rod box with the five rod sections weighs approximately 25 oz.

The original wooden Fuji fly rod box measures approximately 34 1/8" in length x 3.25" wide x 2 1/8" tall.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
