The gorgeous wavy bubble glass carboy/demijohn jug is in very good condition. The bottom of this large glass carboy has an upper case "G" in the center with a "42" above and a "50" below. According to references, while the numbers can sometimes refer to different molds, the "G" mark is sometimes consistent with Gaynor Glass Works. However, references note that the Gaynor Glass Works company was forced to make their larger jugs using the hand-blown process as late as the 1940's. Hence, there would be no mold seams if hand-blown. Other references note that an unknown "G" mark was reportedly used on glass items dating back to the 1850's. While this particular glass carboy has many different features that are consistent with an older production date, the process for removing color from glass began circa 1905. Also, this gorgeous glass carboy/demijohn jug has what appears to be a "standard tooled-finish" at the top - a finishing process which was popular from 1890 to the 1910's. While it may be difficult to see in the photos, the side seams end (cease) in the lower part of the neck. The top is then finished with a "lipping" or finishing tool. In the case of this particular glass carboy, the top is in the form of a tapered collar. While according to references, tapered collars were more popular during the 1860's to 1870's, the clear glass along with the standard tooled-finish helps to keep the date in the earlier part of the twentieth-century. Also, the very noticeable-to the-touch side seams along with the round disk-shaped bottom are evidence that a two-piece post bottom mold was used in the making of this large glass carboy. In addition, there are very faint iridescent color tones that are mainly noticeable when looking into the thicker glass bottom - the very faint colors look very similar to an oily film on water. While an apparent older age has been established, it is important to point out the aesthetic beauty of this glass carboy. First, while there are many smaller bubbles in the glass, there is one that is quite a bit bigger - most of the bubbles are located toward the top - in or near the shoulder area. Along with the beautiful bubbles, there is an incredibly giant wave in the glass that runs from one seam to the other. While it cannot be felt, there is a wave that is so acute that the eye is fooled into thinking the glass is actually bent or curved in that location on the side of the jug.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to be lighter or darker than actual.
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous wavy bubble glass carboy/demijohn jug. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the jug - mainly in the form of rub and/or distress marks in the neck area. These are most likely due to handling, transporting, and/or opening the carboy. Also, while the jug has been washed with mild soap and water, there are still some areas of cloudiness and/or particles in the jug. In addition, there are some faint areas of discoloration that are most likely "due to" and are "consistent with" the aging of the glass.
The decorative possibilities for this large collectible wavy bubble glass carboy/demijohn are many. The display case or well-mounted and sturdy open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this incredibly gorgeous early twentieth-century carboy. Also, the entryway or living room would welcome this beautiful glass jug for its aesthetically attractive bubbles and incredibly acute seam-to-seam wave. In addition, the growing collection of old glass would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this incredibly gorgeous and large glass carboy/demijohn jug.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous glass carboy/demijohn jug for its very good condition, apparently older age, aesthetically attractive bubbles, incredibly acute seam-to-seam wave, and beautiful overall appearance.
The gorgeous wavy bubble glass carboy/demijohn jug weighs approximately 190 oz.
The large wavy bubble glass carboy measures approximately 19" tall x 10 5/8" wide across the bottom from outside to outside x 2 1/16" wide across the rim of the tapered collar with an opening of 1.25" across from inside to inside.
The large clear glass carboy/demijohn measures approximately 33 11/16" in diameter.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
