Antique Stanley Plane, Circular Tool, Sept 25th 1877, Wood Working, Industrial Decor, Black & Silver, Rustic Distress, Steel Blade

$348.60 $435.75

The gorgeously aged and distressed Stanley Rule & Level Company circular plane is in very good condition. While this woodworking tool appears to be ready for the next wooden surface, it is being offered in this listing as a decorative collectible. The aged and distressed black appears to be the original color that has worn with time and use leaving a rustic-reddish patina where the black has faded. The scroll-work along with the other information on the silver-gray knobs are a testament to the level of commitment and care that went into this late nineteenth-century Stanley plane. On the top of the large round adjustment knob it has, "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO." around the outer edge with "PATENTED SEPT. 25, 1877" near the center. While similar planes have a patent date on the outside of the tiny block where the side meets the foot, there does not appear to be any such information on this particular plane. Furthermore, according to references, this particular circular plane is very similar to a Stanley 113. However, the "113" model number does not appear to be on this particular plane. Also, the adjustments for the blade and foot appear to be in excellent working condition. At the top of the blade there is some information that is barely discernible. According to references, the information appears to read, "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO. NEW BRITAIN CONN. U.S.A." with "PAT'D APR 18, 1876" near the center and "REIS'D MAR 20, 1877" at the bottom.

Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, it is important to note that besides a light going over with mild soap and water to remove some dust that had gathered on it, the plane was already incredibly clean as far as no major deposits of rust and/or rust buildup. Hence, one of the reasons the information near the top of the blade is difficult to make out is because steel-wool was not used on the blade in order to preserve the stunning patina.

There are no breaks, cracks, loose sections, or repair places on this gorgeously aged and distressed Stanley Rule & Level Company circular plane. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the plane - mainly in the form of distress and age. As previously mentioned, the aged and distressed black color has worn with time and use leaving a rustic-reddish patina in some areas. Also, while the plane has been cleaned with mild soap and water, there may still be some areas that have some dirt and/or debris that simply need a harsher chemical and/or steel-wool to remove. For example, in the area under the larger adjustment knob the color appears to either be faded or covered with a tougher film that simple soap and water will not remove. Also, there are some crevices and edges that may need a sharp pointed object to clean around them. With this being said, the plane is quite clean to the touch. In addition, while the blade appears to be "OK" sharp, it may still need sharpening for serious woodwork.

The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous Stanley circular plane are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this incredible late nineteenth-century hand-operated Stanley wood plane. Also, the accent table or book shelf would welcome this gorgeous Stanley circular plane for its gorgeously aged and distressed black with rustic-reddish patina and its Victorian industrial charm. In addition, the growing collection of old tools would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this incredibly well-preserved late 1800's Stanley circular plane.

The collector will appreciate this gorgeous Stanley Rule & Level Company circular plane for its very good condition, aged and distressed black color, rustic-reddish patina, Victorian industrial charm, and beautiful overall appearance.

The gorgeously aged and distressed Stanley Rule & Level Company circular plane weighs approximately 51.4 oz.

The Stanley circular plane measures 4.5" tall to the top of the palmrest behind the blade or approximately 5 7/8" tall to the top of the blade and 4" tall to the top of the round adjustment knob in the front with an overall length of 11 3/8".

The adjustable steel foot measures approximately 11 3/16" from the front edge to the back edge x 2.25" wide in the center from outside to outside with a blade opening of 1.75" wide.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
