The collectible rustic farmhouse cast-steel Burgon & Ball sheep shears are in very good condition. While these shears could be sharpened and made ready for another season of work, they are being offered in this listing as a decorative collectible. These are referred to as double-bow sheep shears because of the two rounded sections that unite at the butt of the handle. Also, as can be seen in the photos, there are two very discernible identification marks on the shears - one on each side. The mark has "BURGON & BALL" at the top with a crown-shaped stamp in the center. Below the crown-shaped stamp, there is a shield that has, "Patent No 294" on the inside with an upper case "B" on the left and an upper case "B" on the right outside the shield. Below the shield it has, "MADE IN ENGLAND". In addition to this identification information, there are four numbers "3762". According to references, there have been many 294 sheep shears produced by Burgon & Ball. However, as of the time of this listing, none have been found with "3762" or any number for that matter below the "MADE IN ENGLAND". Hence, these Burgon & Ball cast-steel sheep shears are very collectible. On top of their collectible nature, the distressed and aged patina of the cast-steel give them an incredible rustic-industrial charm.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
There are a couple of very small chips in the blade on one side of the shears that could be sharpened out if so desired. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on these collectible rustic farmhouse cast-steel sheep shears. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the shears - mainly in the form of a distressed and aged appearance. As can be seen in the photos, there are some areas of rust, surface rust, and/or developing patina on this gorgeous farm tool. In addition, under magnification, there is some very insignificant pitting in the material - mainly in the crevice where the two halves join together at the butt to form the double-bow handle. Even though the shears have a distressed and aged appearance along with a rustic patina, the shears have been cleaned and gone over with steel wool and soap to make sure they can be handled and that they are clean to the touch.
The decorative possibilities for these gorgeous rustic farmhouse cast-steel Burgon & Ball 294 sheep shears are many. The display case or or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of these collectible sheep shears. Also, the man-cave, den, or lodge would welcome these gorgeous Burgon & Ball cast-steel sheep shears for their distressed and aged appearance and rustic-industrial charm. In addition, the growing tool collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of these rare "3762" made in England Burgon & Ball sheep shears.
The collector will appreciate these gorgeous cast-steel Burgon & Ball sheep shears for their very good condition, rare "3762" number, distressed and aged appearance, rustic-industrial charm, and attractive overall appearance.
The collectible rustic farmhouse cast-steel Burgon & Ball sheep shears weigh 10.2 oz.
The double-bow Burgon & Ball 294 cast-steel sheep shears measure approximately 12" in length x 4" wide when opened x 1.5" deep at the handles.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
