The collectible 8-foot Archbold wooden step-ladder is in very good to great condition. Even though this ladder could be used for climbing, it is being offered in this listing as a decorative collectible. Taller wooden ladders such as this one make great wall-hanging quilt displays and/or planter-shelves. While it is hard to be certain, the actual wood that makes up the seven rungs along with the frame and fold down shelf appears to be consistent with Pine. The label shows that this type II ladder was originally produced with a rating of 225 pounds by the Archbold Ladder Company of Archbold, Ohio. The gorgeously aged golden-brown wood is accented with scattered drops of different colors - mainly white - and fitted with what appears to be galvanized metal hardware. The drops of paint not only add character and authenticity to this collectible Archbold ladder, but they also reveal that the Archbold Ladder Company was trusted by painters for their design and high-quality craftsmanship. According to references, the Archbold Ladder Company - named after Archbold, Ohio - was originally started by a man named Ed Gigax who was known for making his ladders by hand. While particular dates are seemingly difficult to find, there are old records from 1933 that show where the Archbold Ladder Company had to hire several additional workers to keep up with demand. Hence, this is a good indicator that the company was already well-established by 1933. Furthermore, historical notes point out that on Tuesday March 12th 1912, relatives in Archbold, Ohio received a telegram that Franklin Gigax - son of Ed Gigax - was very ill in Phoenix Arizona. Therefore, it is very likely that Ed Gigax was building ladders by hand in Archbold, Ohio during the turn of the twentieth-century. While this establishes that - what would eventually become known as the Archbold Ladder Company - was almost certainly a very well-respected quality ladder maker, it does not help in determining the age of the ladder in this listing. However, references show that the company was officially called the Archbold Ladder Company upon its incorporation circa 1961. In addition, the name behind the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) rating on the label of this ladder was settled on in 1969. Hence, it is highly likely that this ladder was produced circa 1970's-1980's.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
There are some small areas where an edge and/or corner has a small chip. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, deep chips, water damages, or repair places on this gorgeously aged golden-brown Archbold Ladder Company 8-foot step-ladder. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the ladder - mainly in the form of distress and age. Also, there are some areas of discoloration and/or patina developing on the wood and galvanized metal hardware. As previously mentioned, there are spots of color - mainly white - scattered on this collectible Archbold step-ladder. Also, the galvanized metal hardware appears to be fully intact and in great working condition.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeously aged golden-brown collectible 8-foot Archbold step-ladder are many. The entryway or living area would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeous wooden step-ladder. Since longer wall spaces are sometimes more prominent in an entryway or living area, the ladder could be hung horizontally to make a stunning family photo display or quilt-rack. Also, the study or home office would welcome this Archbold wooden step-ladder for its gorgeously aged golden-brown color and industrial farmhouse charm. In addition, the taller height makes this ladder great for adding cross-shelves reaching from the front to back to hold many beautifully colored ceramic planters.
The collector will appreciate this seemingly rare 8-foot Archbold step-ladder for its very good to great condition, gorgeously aged golden-brown color, galvanized metal hardware, industrial farmhouse charm, and attractive overall appearance.
The collectible 8-foot Archbold wooden step-ladder weighs approximately 29 pounds.
In the folded up position, the wooden Archbold painter's step-ladder measures approximately 96 13/16" in length x 23.75" wide across the bottom from outside to outside x 12 7/8" wide across the top from outside to outside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
