The large three-section Kramer typeset printer drawer/wall-hanging shelf is in very good condition. The cast-brass drawer-pull on the front has "KRAMER" in all caps sunken into the front. While there are no other discernible marks for identification on this gorgeous wooden typeset printer drawer, there are references to the Kramer name as being associated with a Typographical Union in 1890. Also, references show that "KRAMER" appears on a same-style drawer-pull that is separate from its drawer. However, even though the style is the same, the material is different. Instead of being cast-brass like the one in this listing, it is made from primitive cast-iron. Hence, the "KRAMER" on the primitive cast-iron drawer-pull most likely indicates that the "KRAMER" company existed on or around 1900. Along with this, cast-brass was popular in the late Rococo period - mid to late nineteenth-century. In addition to the apparently older age of at least the drawer-pull, there is evidence of early low-carbon forged nails on this rare typeset printer drawer/wall shelf. While many have been replaced with what appears to be post-1890 machine-made nails, the rust on the nails does not match the black rust around the holes. According to references, black rust results from low-carbon wrought-iron style fasteners and are in direct contrast to those that produce red rust on more modern metal. Also, many of the nail-heads are imperfectly round which is a good indicator of hand-forging and/or fasteners made around the turn of the twentieth-century. In addition, the ends of the drawer has saw marks that are consistent with quarter-sawn and/or rough-sawn wood - which in the least has a much more primitive appearance. While it is hard to be for certain, the front and sides appear to be oak with maple in the back along with maple dividers. Also, the drawer bottom has three layers with what appears to be cedar on the main bottom. Hence, this gorgeous wooden typeset printer drawer/wall shelf was most likely produced sometime in the early 1910's.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the ChapStick in the photos is not included with this listing as it was used for scale purposes only. In addition, in order to hang this shelf on a wall, either a metal wall-hanging wire and/or mounts will need to be added to the back or it could be mounted directly to the wall with screws through the interior.
While there are some cracks on the interior side of the three-layer drawer bottom, they do not reach through to the back. Also, one of the little drawer-slots has its upper section missing. In addition, approximately six of the slots have worn and/or outer-edge distress most likely from use. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, water damages, or repair places on this medium-brown wooden printer drawer/wall shelf. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on this gorgeous wooden drawer - mainly in the form of distress and wear due to age and use. Also, some of the aging fasteners (mainly those holding the slots) have the appearance of slack or looseness around their heads. However, it is important to remember that if they are driven in too much, they could damage the original slots.
The decorative possibilities for this large three-section Kramer typeset printer drawer/wall-hanging shelf are many. The entryway or living area would be enhanced by the addition of this primitive wooden typeset drawer hanging from a wall with - or without - a growing porcelain figurine collection. Also, the kitchen or dining area would welcome this gorgeous printer drawer as a primitive spice-rack or collectible spoon display. In addition, the growing collection of antique letters and fonts would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this rare Kramer typeset printer drawer.
The collector will appreciate this three-section typeset printer drawer for its very good condition, evidence of older age, larger size, rare "KRAMER" drawer-pull, and gorgeous primitive appearance.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
