The two gorgeous urn-shaped tribal pottery lamps are in great to excellent condition. As can be seen in the photos, both lamps are in great working condition. While there are no discernible identification markings on the lamps, their stunning gray, silver, copper, and brown drop-glaze feathered accents along with the heavy brass base on each lamp give evidence that these are incredibly high-quality well-constructed table lamps. Not only were these gorgeous urn-shaped drop-glaze pottery lamps built to last, they were also made with a theme in mind. While a technical name for the theme is unknown as of the time of this listing, there are some clues that point toward a native/Southwestern/tribal theme. The beautifully detailed striped accents just below the neck of each lamp depict feathers much like those found on a native headdress. Also, the black on the top and white to off-white near the bottom are symbolically important in Native culture. According to references, to wear black would indicate the individual was a powerful warrior who had proven himself in battle. Hence, the color black symbolizes victory in Native culture. On the other hand, the white to off-white near the bottom in Native culture symbolizes peace and happiness. Along with its stunning depiction of feathers and symbolic color palette, there is an additional tribal accent found on the sides of each square brass base. The particular design is referred to as the Mayan Meander pattern. However, it is important to point out that nearly the same Mayan Meander pattern was also used in Ancient Greece and is commonly referred to as the Greek key or Greek fret pattern. Given the prominent role of the depiction of feathers along with the symbolism found in the color palette, the Mayan Meander pattern would be more consistent with the overall tribal theme. Furthermore, according to references, the Mayan Meander along with other patterns from Native South American culture actually bleed over into Southwestern decorations.
Each white cord has a non ground-fault plug which indicates that these lamps were made before 1971. While we do not know what they refer to, there are three letters "EIW" between the two prongs of each plug end. Also, it appears that one of the lamp sockets has either been replaced or it was produced with a different socket. However, this is highly unlikely and the fresher sheen on the socket gives evidence that it is a little "newer" than the older socket on the other lamp. The blue Underwriters Laboratories sticker has an issue number of 96,914 with an "E-22872" just below. While one socket has been replaced, it appears that the ratings are still the same for both at 660 Watts 250 Volts. The section that mounts onto the sides of the lamp socket is called a harp. While there are no shades with these two gorgeous lamps, two harps and two finials are included with the lamps.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
While both lamps have felt on the bottom, the felt on one has a tear which was done in order to inspect the bottom for identification. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on either of these gorgeous urn-shaped tribal pottery table lamps. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the lamps - mainly in the form of very subtle rub marks on the lamps. Also, each square brass base has a developing patina and/or slight distress on their surface. While the lamps are in great working condition, the turn knob on the one with the blue UL sticker may initially need to be turned a few extra times as the light comes on near the transition point of the turn of the knob. In addition, while the cords appear to be slightly discolored due to age, they have little to no marks on their rubbery-plastic surfaces.
The decorative possibilities for these incredibly gorgeous urn-shaped tribal pottery lamps are many. The living room or den would be enhanced by the addition of these stunningly beautiful black and off-white ceramic table lamps. Also, the bedroom would welcome these incredibly gorgeous table lamps for their high-quality well-constructed features and Southwestern-tribal charm. In addition, the growing lamp collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of these incredibly attractive urn-shaped electric table lamps.
The collector will appreciate these two gorgeous urn-shaped pottery lamps for their great to excellent condition, symbolic color palette, prominent feather depiction, Mayan Meander pattern, developing patina on each square base, wonderful Southwestern-tribal charm, and beautiful overall appearance.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
