Antique Atlas Jar, Glass E-Z Seal, Quart Size, Pre 1915, Smooth Lip, Lightning Bale, Clear & Wavy, Kitchen Storage, Home Decor

$158.00 $197.50

The gorgeous quart-size Atlas E-Z Seal clear glass lightning jar is in very good condition. According to references, the smooth lip on this jar is an indicator that it was finished by hand at some point prior to 1915. In 1915 jars were completely machine-made which meant the jars no longer needed to be finished by hand. Hence, this gorgeous Atlas E-Z- Seal glass lightning jar is over one hundred years old - it is an antique. The embossed letters on the front spell out, "ATLAS E-Z SEAL". The dropped "A" in Atlas is a very important detail on collectible Atlas E-Z Seal jars. Also, there is a letter and number on the base. The number appears to be an underlined "9" while the letter is an "O" across the center of the base and in line with the "9". According to references, the bottom information most likely identifies a particular "Mold" and "Plant". Also, while it is more subtle than some, there appears to be a convex pontil area on the base encircled by wave-like rings - pontil marks are good indicators of blown glass. While the dropped "A" in Atlas along with the unique number and letter configuration on the bottom add to the rarity of this Atlas E-Z Seal lightning jar, the imperfections within the glass grab the attention and lure observers closer to this gorgeous glass collectible. Furthermore, while the glass has a wonderful and highly-treasured distorted appearance which is very attractive to the eye, the small pin-like imperfections along with the noticeable bubbles inside the glass add to its overall charm. As if these attractive features were not enough, the glass also has small line-like swirls - where two lines in the glass run side by side much like a curvy one-lane country road. In addition to the gorgeous glass body of this Atlas E-Z Seal lightning jar, the galvanized metal bale has a beautifully distressed rustic-gray patina along with developing surface rust. The metal bale appears to be the original closure that came on the jar. Also, the glass lightning lid has the ridge on the top which is sometimes consistent with Hazel Atlas lightning jars. In addition, it is important to point out that the term "lightning" supposedly refers to the design which allows the lid to be removed much quicker than other closing methods.

Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the rubber gasket is not included with the jar.

There is an area of very shallow surface chips on the outer edge of the beaded-lip of the rim that are located to the left of the row of angled lines in the glass under the lip. While the lines can be felt on the outside under the beaded-lip of the rim, they are not detectable on the inside. The consistency of the little angled lines are most likely due to the method used to finish the top of the jar. Hence, they happened during the production process. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair marks on this gorgeous Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the jar - mainly in the form of rub marks on the sides and base where it has come in contact with other surfaces. While the glass lid has some slight rub marks, they are very hard to notice. Also, the glass under the area of the galvanized metal bale does not have the amount of rub marks that are sometimes consistent on lightning jars. The main reason for this is due to the metal bale still being firmly intact - instead of sliding around the neck of the jar. While both the inside and outside of the jar have been cleaned, there could still be areas that have a cloudy appearance - such as a crevice or corner. Also, there is still a tad-bit of cloudy-look under the metal bale around the neck. It is very faint unless the jar is pulled up close and inspected in the light. As previously mentioned, the metal bale has a distressed rustic-gray patina along with developing surface rust.

The decorative possibilities for this collectible Atlas E-Z Seal clear glass lightning jar are many. The china cabinet or display curio would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeous lightning jar. Also, the open collectibles shelf would welcome this beautiful glass treasure for its wavy-distorted glass and embossed letters. In addition, the growing jar collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this incredibly attractive smooth-lip pre-1915 Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar.

The collector will appreciate this beautiful Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar for its very good condition, attractive imperfections, pre-1915 smooth-lip, dropped "A" in Atlas, and beautiful overall appearance.

The collectible Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar weighs 21.3 oz.

The quart-size Atlas E-Z Seal lightning jar measures approximately 7 5/8" tall to the top of the bale over the glass lid or approximately 7 1/8" tall to the top of the rim

The beaded-lip rim measures approximately 2.75" wide across from outside to outside with an opening measurement of 2.25" wide from inside to inside.

The bottom of this gorgeous quart-size Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar measures approximately 4" wide across the base from outside to outside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
