The gorgeous rustic gray heavy-gauge galvanized steel dairy jug/umbrella stand is in great condition. While much of the beautifully distressed surface has an intense rustic charcoal gray matte-finish, there are sections where age, wear, and weather have brought out soft gold-colored tones. The unusual gold-colored tones on this very magnetic galvanized steel jug are most likely due to the zinc coating that was originally applied over the steel during the galvanization process. Incredibly, galvanization was invented in the earlier half of the nine-teenth century - circa 1836. According to references, by 1850, over ten-thousand tons of zinc were being used per year in the British galvanizing industry. While photos can hardly give a sense of what something might weigh and/or how well-constructed an item actually feels, the larger "D" shaped handle on this gorgeous rustic gray jug indicates it was meant to lift very heavy contents. By giving a much taller handle to this larger-size jug, it can be lifted with either both hands or two people. While this jug could be used in many different settings both on and off the farm, it is being offered in this listing as an entryway umbrella/walking-cane stand. The smaller diameter rim makes this jug perfect for keeping contents upright and away from walls or doors.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the coffee mug in the photos is not included with the listing as it was used for scale purposes only.
There are no holes, dents, loose sections, or recent repair places on this gorgeous rustic gray galvanized steel milk jug/umbrella stand. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on and in the jug - mainly in the form of distress, age, and wear. Also, there is a slightly more intense silver-colored band around the bottom edge that may have been put around the jug at some point in the past to insure against seepage around the seam where the side meets the base. In addition, as can be seen in the photos, the interior is very clean - even to the point that some of the originally shinier surface on the interior is intact.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous rustic gray heavy-gauge galvanized steel dairy jug/umbrella stand are many. The entryway would be enhanced by the addition of this beautifully distressed rustic gray steel jug as an umbrella and walking-cane stand. Also, the dining room or kitchen would welcome this larger size galvanized steel dairy jug for its primitive industrial charm. The tighter rim in this larger jug makes it a perfect accent piece for a lonely corner or walk-through area. Furthermore, this rustic gray jug would be an incredibly attractive floor vase with taller faux stems and branches rising from its top. In addition, the growing collection of primitive antiques would increase in value and interest on the arrival of this stunningly beautiful rustic gray galvanized steel treasure.
The collector will appreciate this beautiful rustic gray milk jug/umbrella stand for its great condition, high-quality construction, soft gold-colored tones, matte-finish, larger size, primitive industrial charm, and gorgeous overall appearance.
The rustic gray heavy-gauge galvanized steel milk jug/umbrella stand weighs 9 pounds 10.0 ounces.
The gorgeous rustic gray heavy-gauge galvanized steel dairy jug/umbrella stand measures approximately 17 7/8" tall x 13" wide across including the handle x 10.75" wide across the round base from outside to outside.
The rim measures approximately 4 3/8" wide across from outside to outside and 4" across from inside to inside.
The round base measures approximately 34" in diameter.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
