The distressed and worn upcycled Swirl Creeper industrial wall-hanging decor is in very good condition. The gorgeous distress and wear found on this mid-century Automobilia related collectible are what makes this creeper very attractive to the eyes. Also, there is a particular wondering that begins to pique the interest after seeing what at first-glance might appear to be just a simple old creeper. When combing over this gorgeously worn and distressed Swirl Creeper, the mind begins to ask questions about its history. One can imagine a middle-aged mechanic rolling under a 1950 Mercury on this creeper. Perhaps the scene brings back a precious memory from youth when dad or grandpa was just an arms length away. All of a sudden a familiar voice is heard saying, "Watch the oil on the floor" or "Stay out of that antifreeze". Certainly a popular one would have been "Hand me that wrench". Another question this old creeper might cause one to ask might be, "Where was this old creeper used". Given its distress and wear, it was almost certainly used in an old gas station. The older gas stations bring back many fond memories of family outings when everyone loaded up and went for a ride in dad's big car. Just as they were pulling into the pumps, the ding-ding of the bell would ring alerting the attendant that someone needed gas. The gas attendant/mechanic/clerk/owner would come out with his uniform-blue shirt and greasy hat with a rag hanging from his back pocket. While fond memories can go on and on, many times a catalyst is needed to open them up. This old creeper could be the catalyst to awaken those precious memories that stretch back to a time when life was much more simple and a lot less lonely than today.
After finding this gorgeously distressed and worn Swirl Creeper and realizing its awesome potential, the decision was made to clean it up and make it presentable in a way that it could be touched, appreciated, and enjoyed. By covering an item with a coat of clear polyurethane, the potential for dust and further deterioration become much less and the gorgeously aged distress and wear can be better enjoyed and appreciated. Once the rollers and headrest were removed, the individual parts were cleaned and dried. After the creeper was allowed to sit for a few days to make sure it was completely dry, a coat of polyurethane was applied on the exterior of the creeper. There are areas where the wood has soaked up more of the polyurethane and others where it is a little more shiny. The steel Swirl Roller rollers were dipped in polyurethane and left for awhile. Their rustic worn appearance was preserved under the clear polyurethane. While there are a couple of places on the rollers where the polyurethane didn't fully cover, the rustic industrial appearance of the steel rollers is priceless. Once the polyurethane dried, the rollers and the headrest were reinstalled. To make sure the polyurethane was fully cured and to do away with any lingering odors from the fresh polyurethane, this gorgeous Swirl Creeper was put up for over a year.
Each of the rollers have "Swirl Roller" embossed in the metal. Also, it has "No. 40 Swirl CREEPER PARKER PRODUCTS CO DELAWARE OHIO MADE IN USA" on the front of the creeper.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, it is important to note that the creeper could be hung from the rollers or wall-hangers could be added at some point in the future.
As can be seen in the photos, there are areas of distress and wear along with a broken through area on the floor of the creeper which add to the overall character of this piece. While all of the hardware has been checked to make sure it is tight and fully intact, there are some loose layers on the edges of the wood - mainly around the broken through place and at the main bottom. Also, there are vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the creeper - mainly due to previous use. In addition, there are some spots of white color which appear to be dots of paint on the creeper.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeously distressed and worn upcycled Swirl Creeper are many. The entryway or man-cave would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeously distressed and aged mid-century creeper. Also, the loft apartment would welcome this creeper as an incredibly interesting decorative coat and hat rack. While the four rollers on the back could double as hooks, it might be preferable to add a row (s) of cast iron or wrought iron hangers across the front of this industrial treasure. In addition, this creeper would make a perfect coffee table to wow guests and family too. By adding four screw-on legs along with their matching hardware and a glass insert over the "Swirl CREEPER" side, it could become the table that transformed the living area.
The collector will appreciate this aged and worn Swirl Creeper for its very good condition, upcycled potential, mid-century industrial charm, and gorgeously distressed appearance.
The distressed and rustic Swirl Creeper industrial wall decoration weighs approximately 11 pounds 5 oz.
The upcycled wall-hanging wood and metal Swirl Creeper measures approximately 36" tall x 15.25" wide x 3 7/8" deep including the rollers or approximately 5.75" deep including the headrest - if vertically oriented.
The distressed and worn black headrest measures approximately 10 3/8" in length x 2.75" wide x 1.75" deep.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
