The gorgeous wall-hanging Egyptian transport ship papyrus painting is in great condition. While this incredibly rich papyrus painting does not appear to have a signature (unless it is hidden behind the matte), the amount of time and talent that went into bringing this richly colored Egyptian nautical scene together must have been immense. According to references, the particular vessel portrayed is an Egyptian transport ship which was supposedly very similar to an Egyptian naval vessel. The painting depicts a total of twenty-three persons aboard the vessel moving over a fairly calm but busy waterway full of marine life as portrayed in the seven creatures stretching under the bow to the stern of the ship. According to references, in order for color to be put on papyrus, an artist must use either a marker or acrylic paint. While it is hard to be for certain, the consistency of the colors appears to point toward acrylic. The consistency is very noticeable in the waves of the water as they are depicted with alternating medium to dark blue zigzag lines. While the three brown fish are cleverly spaced apart so as to give distance to the scene, there are two blue fish depicted on the left and two other forms of marine life portrayed in a gold color on the right. The artist then reflects some of the green color from the hull of the ship off the back of the gold-colored marine animals. While the rich blue colors command the lower part of the scene, the huge white sail stands out boldly against the beige-colored papyrus. The gold and black accents that make up the rigging, mast, cargo, and hull trim blend perfectly with the dark brown figures depicted on the ship. To tie the bold white and rich blue scenes together, the artist uses a deep green color for the ship's hull which helps to bring out the bold white garments depicted on the Egyptians along with the vertical blue stripes on the front and rear cargo.
The dual-layer step-down matting that moves outward from the narrow off-white trim-band around the papyrus to the wider light beige section works perfectly to tie in the painting with the frame. The beautiful wooden frame that holds this incredibly rich papyrus painting has a brown paper covering on the back with a metal wall-hanging wire already installed on two small screw-in eye-loops. The deep bright appearance of the gold-colored frame is very similar to gilt-like gold trim. Along with its rich gilt-like gold color, the frame has a gray accent-band that gives it a slightly antiqued appearance. Hence, the richly colored features that make up the whole of this framed wall-hanging come together to give it an elegant nautical charm that could be displayed in any room of any home.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the coffee mug in the photos is not included with this listing as it was used for scale purposes only.
There is one surface chip on the left of the frame that has a small indention directly behind it on the side. While this little spot could easily be colored in at some point in the future, the area is so small that it would be hard to notice hanging on a wall. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous framed wall-art. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on this framed painting - mainly in the form of very faint marks on the exterior of the frame. Also, there are a couple of very small tears in the paper covering on the back. In addition, there appears to be some very faint dust particles and/or cloudy areas between the matting and the glass. Finally, it is important to point out that the wavy or puffy appearance of the painting behind the glass is actually consistent with papyrus.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous wall-hanging Egyptian ship papyrus painting are many. The entryway or living area would be enhanced by the addition of this richly-colored wall-art. Also, the dining room or bath area would welcome this beautifully framed papyrus painting for its elegant nautical charm. In addition, the growing art collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this stunning Egyptian-theme papyrus painting.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous wall-hanging Egyptian ship papyrus painting for its great condition, incredibly rich color palette, elegant nautical charm, and beautiful overall appearance.
The beautifully framed and matted Egyptian transport ship papyrus painting weighs 33.9 oz.
The gorgeous wall-hanging Egyptian transport ship papyrus painting measures 16.25" wide x 12 5/16" tall x .75" deep or approximately 1 1/16" deep including the two small eye-loops on the back.
The papyrus painting inside the mat measures 12" wide x 7 15/16" tall.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
