The gorgeous Magnetic Cutlery scissors are in very good condition. These are incredibly rare scissors as they have the "Magnetic" name tooled into the outer side of the blade. The shape of the letters making up "Magnetic" are very similar to the Acme Gothic font which was very popular in the Art Deco era. The beautiful tool marks appear to be hand-tooled due to their inconsistency. The scissors are very magnetic (they react to a magnet). Also, these scissors appear to be very old. Under magnification, the straight-headed screw that holds the scissors together appears to have inconsistencies unlike machine-made screws of the early 1900's. The blades are not very sharp and do not appear to have ever been sharpened. The darker center section in each blade was most likely caused by the forging of the steel - instead of sharpening. This has a similar look to the darkened appearance on Damascus steel. There is a "U.S.A." on the butt-end of the blade (where it meets the handle area) that becomes visible when the scissors are opened. According to references, the Magnetic Cutlery Company of Philadelphia was owned by Otto and Frank Maussner from 1900-1932 who apparently partnered with Daniel Peres of Solingen Germany. In 1900 Otto Maussner was the sole agent for Daniel Peres Barrel Brand Cutlery - this is supposedly the same Daniel Peres as the "D. Peres Solingen Germany" mark found on highly collectible antique pocket knives. It was not until 1934 that the trademark "barrel brand" was used.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
There are some very tiny nicks on the edges of the blades that are nearly invisible unless magnification is used. However, these little places could be in the edges because they were never sharpened out. The scissors open and shut and appear to be in great working condition - especially if they were sharper. The straight-headed screw appears to be tight. There is a little slack or looseness between the scissors but when they are opened the looseness is gone. Hence, the initial slack is most likely part of their original adjustment so they would work correctly without being too tight as the blades were fully opened. Other than this, there are no breaks, bends, loose sections, or repair places on these gorgeous Magnetic Cutlery scissors.
The decorative possibilities for these gorgeous Magnetic scissors are many. The she-shed or craft room would be enhanced by the addition of these incredibly detailed early 1900's scissors. Also, the entryway or living area wall would welcome these gorgeous scissors for their gorgeous Art Deco era charm. The yellow handles and silver-colored blades would stand out even more nestled inside the velvety-red interior of a wall-hanging shadow box. In addition, the growing tool collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of these incredibly detailed Magnetic Cutlery scissors.
The collector will appreciate these gorgeous Magnetic Cutlery scissors for their very good condition, highly detailed accents, Art Deco era charm, and beautiful overall appearance.
The gorgeous Magnetic Cutlery scissors weigh 2.8 oz.
The yellow and silver tooled-steel Magnetic scissors measures approximately 6 7/8" in length x 2.25" wide across the handles from outside to outside with a blade length of 3 3/8".

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
