The beautiful Aloha ABA Hawaii 1987 collectible handbell is in excellent condition. This particular ceramic handbell is number 141 out of a total of 400 that were made by an artist known as Ele. According to references, ABA is an acronym for Applied Behavior Analysis. Aloha ABA is a behavioral therapy provider supposedly located in Mililani, Hawaii. This handbell was most likely commissioned by Aloha ABA to raise awareness for behavioral health. The artist known as Ele has supposedly made ceramic pieces dating back to the 1950's. While there may not be a lot of information available about the artist, the quality of the work speaks for itself. The theme of this collectible handbell is "Dancer w/Gourd". The gorgeous off-white to very light creamy-beige is beautifully decorated with chocolate brown and copper accents. While the colors are more solid at the top, bottom, in the writing, and the Dancer w/Gourd figure, the rest has a gorgeous sponge-like appearance that is very similar to that found on older spongeware. The colors and accents come together perfectly to give this gorgeous handbell a warm and welcoming charm. The ceramic tongue is in the shape of a small pineapple. The tongue swings back and forth on clear filament very similar to fishing line. Also, it is important to note that the measurements of the handbell indicate that it is a custom made - one-off - ceramic collectible. The round bottom of the handbell is actually out-of-round by approximately 1/16". This is evidence that it was most likely made by hand as opposed to it simply being a mass-produced blank handbell that was later-on glazed and decorated.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous "Dancer w/Gourd" Hawaiian ABA collectible ceramic handbell. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the handbell - mainly on the bottom where it has come in contact with different surfaces. There is some crackle happening under the glaze which is not from damage but from age and/or original materials used. Also, there are some pin-size imperfections in the glaze that are most likely due to air pockets forming in the material and/or color during production. The tongue is fully intact and dings quite loudly.
The decorative possibilities for this collectible Aloha ABA Hawaii 1987 collectible ceramic handbell are many. The china cabinet or display curio would be enhanced by the addition of this beautiful ceramic handbell. Also, the open collectibles shelf or bookcase would welcome this gorgeous collectible handbell for its particular "Dancer w/Gourd" theme along with its warm and welcoming charm. In addition, the growing ceramic arts collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this rare limited-production ceramic Hawaiian handbell.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous Aloha ABA Hawaii 1987 handbell for its excellent condition, warm and welcoming charm, rare limited-production, ABA subject matter, "Dancer w/Gourd" theme, and beautiful overall appearance.
The gorgeous Aloha ABA Hawaii 1987 collectible ceramic handbell weighs 4.9 oz.
The off-white and brown handbell measures 6 5/8" tall x approximately 3" wide from outside to outside x approximately 3 1/16" deep from front to back outside to outside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
