Vintage Mystery Book, The Casino Murder Case, SS Van Dine, 1934 First Edition, Fiction Novel, Black Cover, Collectible Literature, Art Deco

$520.00 $650.00

The gorgeous hardback fictional murder-mystery book entitled "The Casino Murder Case" is in good to very good condition. The first thing that grabs the attention with this book is its stunning green Art Deco inspired trim on the front and spine. According to references, the particular font is referred to as a Cormier typeface. Even more, the Cormier font is still very popular today and is widely recognized as one of the "Must-Have Fonts for Graphic Designers and Font Lovers". Hence, the beautiful Art Deco Cormier font is the main reason for the gorgeous aesthetic appeal of this 85 year old murder-mystery novel. However, the gorgeous Art Deco appearance is not the only thing so appealing about this collectible hardback book. This is a 1934 first-edition hardback book by S.S. Van Dine which was supposedly the second of the final six Vance books. Philo Vance is the fictional detective who must investigate a murder by poisoning. The casino of the book is referred to as Kinkaid's Casino located in New York's Upper West Side on West 73rd Street. The book was so popular that it inspired the 1935 film "The Casino Murder Case" starring Paul Lukas with co-star Rosalind Russell. In addition, this gorgeous Art Deco murder-mystery book was printed in the United States of America. The title page shows Charles Scribner's Sons, New York.

The Casino Murder Case

A Philo Vance Story

by S.S. Van Dine

Please note that screen resolution and /or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.

There are no tears, rips, loose pages, or repair places on or in this gorgeous Art Deco 1934 first-edition S.S. Van Dine murder-mystery novel. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the book - mainly in the form of aging on the pages. Even though age has caused the spine part of the cover to separate from the inner spine of the bound pages which is common for older books, this murder-mystery novel is still very readable - opening and closing with no problems. However, it is important to note that older books are generally more fragile and should never be opened to the point of causing stress to the binding of the pages. While we did not check every page, there does not appear to be any pen, pencil, marker, or highlighter marks on or in the book. There is a brown area of discoloration on the page-edges of the bottom right corner. While some of the edges have a slight amount of bleed-through onto their actual pages, it is very minimal and gives the impression that a liquid had momentarily reached the edges but was almost immediately removed. The particular tone of its darker color is a good indicator that the area of discoloration was caused much earlier in the life of the book and has been aging along with the rest of the book ever since. Also, there is no dust-jacket with the book.

The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous 1934 Art Deco first-edition murder-mystery novel are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this stunning Art Deco hardback book. Also, the entryway or living area would welcome this gorgeous book for its incredible aesthetic Art Deco appeal. While the very popular Cormier font is widely reproduced today, to have a first-edition 1934 murder-mystery novel with its first-generation Cormier typeface would be wildly over-the-top for history, literature, and Art Deco lovers. In addition, the growing book collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this 1934 first-edition S.S. Van Dine murder-mystery novel entitled "The Casino Murder Case".

The collector will appreciate this 1934 Art Deco first-edition hardback book for its good to very good condition, first-generation Cormier font, fictional murder-mystery genre, overall collectibility, and gorgeous aesthetic appearance.

The gorgeous hardback fictional murder-mystery novel entitled "The Casino Murder Case" weighs 16.3 oz.

The black and green Art Deco murder-mystery book measures approximately 7 9/16" tall x 5 3/8" wide x 1 3/8" thick.

If a shipping cost cannot be populated outside of the United States it is possible that the item is too big to be shipped or it is listed for local pickup only. However, please check with me to make sure as sometimes there could be system errors. If you have further questions concerning shipping outside of the USA please contact me.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
