The beautiful Thatcher Glass atomic starburst canister/apothecary jar is in great to excellent condition. While the Thatcher Glass Manufacturing Company began in the late 1800's, the particular mark on the bottom of this jar was used from approximately 1949 to 1980. Also, there is a number 7 just below the Thatcher Glass mark. According to references, jars that have more desirable numbers are more collectible. While it is hard to be certain of the exact significance of the number 7 on the bottom of this jar, in general, 7 is symbolic of perfection and/or completion. Hence, it is highly likely the number 7 increases the collectibility of this jar. Also, the four sides along with the top of the lid have very similar atomic starburst patterns. While three of the sides have a smaller oval "eye" in their center. The fourth side, which has a larger oval "eye" in the center, would most likely have been considered the front of the jar when - and/or if - it was originally displayed on a shelf or counter space. While the pattern is still similar, the atomic starburst on the top of the glass lid actually has a circular "eye" in the center. While it is important to point out the gorgeous overall appearance of this beautiful glass canister along with its Atomic Age charm, the uniquely dimpled edge around the glass lid also makes this a very functional storage jar. The small dimples around the rim make it much easier to hold the lid more securely without it slipping from the fingers.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the ChapStick in the photos is not included in the listing as it was used for scale purposes only.
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous Thatcher Glass apothecary jar/kitchen canister. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the canister - mainly on the bottom where it has come in contact with different surfaces. Also, there are some imperfections in the glass - mainly in the center of the glass lid. When held up against a light source, there is a faint appearance of a spider-web on the inside of the glass lid. In addition, there are some bubbles inside the glass which is consistent with older glass items.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous Thatcher Glass apothecary jar/storage canister are many. The china cabinet or display curio would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeous Thatcher Glass collectible. Also, the open collectibles shelf would welcome this beautiful glass canister for its gorgeous overall appearance and Atomic Age charm. In addition, the growing glass collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this gorgeous Thatcher Glass apothecary jar/storage canister.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous glass storage canister for its great to excellent condition, atomic starburst pattern, smaller size, and gorgeous overall appearance.
The beautiful Thatcher Glass atomic starburst apothecary jar weighs 13.3 oz.
The small square-shaped glass canister measures 4.75" tall to the top of the glass lid or 3 11/16" tall to the top of the rim.
The square-shaped glass jar measures 3 7/16" wide across the bottom from outside to outside x 3 7/16" wide across the bottom from outside to outside.
The round rim measures 3" wide across from outside to outside with an opening measurement of 2.5" across from inside to inside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
