The genuine Dazey Churn & Mfg. Co. glass and iron metal butter-churn is in very good to great condition. The top rustic iron housing has been lubricated and will turn in either direction - forward or reverse. The smaller size of this gorgeous Dazey butter-church has sometimes been described as a "salesman's sample". However, according to references that were supposedly close to the Dazey family, it is highly unlikely that salesman's samples were actually produced. Also, this Dazey butter-churn is not a reproduction. The embossed circle on the front says, "Dazey Churn & Mfg Co" across the top with an upwardly curved "St. Louis U.S.A." making up the bottom of the circle. Reproductions are either blurred or they altogether leave out the "St. Louis U.S.A.". In addition, the wooden turn knob is held on by a driven pin/rivet instead of a screw commonly found on reproductions. Also, under magnification, the square-shaped glass bottom has a very old wavy appearance with a slight purplish and greenish tone in the light of a jeweler's loupe. The four-bladed wooden paddle appears to have been made from Maple wood.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.
There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous Dazey butter-churn. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the churn - mainly on the bottom where it has come in contact with different surfaces. However, they are hardly noticeable to the naked eye. Also, the upper iron metal housing has a beautiful rustic and worn patina. The small wooden turn-knob is fully intact with no cracks. All of the teeth on the gears are intact. There are some very minor signs of wear on some of the teeth which could be due to the aging of the metal as much as wear from being used. Amazingly, the four wooden blades on the churn are fully intact with no chips. As previously mentioned, the wooden turn-knob turns the churn in both directions - forward and reverse. While it has been lightly lubricated for testing, the gears may need additional lubrication and/or adjustment before being turned upon arrival. Also, the smaller/lighter size of the churn makes it much more difficult to turn without it being held in the hand. It is important to note that the smaller horizontal gear has a slight wobble which appears to be due to its slightly off-center mounting hole.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous Dazey butter-churn are many. The china cabinet or display curio would be enhanced by the addition of this rustic primitive kitchen tool. Also, the open collectibles shelf or bookcase would welcome this rare Dazey butter-churn for its primitive country charm. In addition, the growing tool collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this incredibly rare and old Dazey butter-churn.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous Dazey butter-churn for its very good to great condition, authenticity, rustic and worn patina, primitive country charm, and beautiful overall appearance.
The genuine Dazey Churn & Mfg. Co. glass and iron metal butter-churn weighs 13.0 oz.
The gorgeous Dazey Churn & Mfg. Co. butter-churn measures 6" tall to the top of the metal gear housing or 3.5" tall to the top of the round rim on the square-shaped jar.
The base of the lower glass section measures approximately 2 1/8" wide across from outside to outside x approximately 2 1/8" wide across from outside to outside.
The rim measures approximately 1 5/8" wide across from outside to outside with an inner opening measurement of 1 3/8" across from inside to inside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
