Vintage Microscope Lab, Porter Science, No 264 Microcraft, Blue & Black, Metal Case, Mid Century, Home Decor, Atomic Decoration

$228.40 $285.50

The mid-century Porter Microcraft Microscope Lab and case are in very good condition. This is a very rare Porter Science Microscope Lab because it is pre-Lionel affiliation. According to references, Porter and Lionel eventually came together to produce a lab. Also, labs in general were short lived due to increased governmental regulations and simply faded away in the 1960's. Hence, this is a very rare youth-educational lab. While there may or may not be missing and/or used accessories, this Porter Microscope Lab is being listed mainly for its decorative purposes. The gorgeous mid-century atomic-style design of the front along with the blue/teal-blue color gives this Porter Science product a very vibrant industrial-educational charm. This particular lab is very interesting because the front of the case has a piece of tape with "No. 264" over another number that was either a 263 or 262. This was not done outside the manufacturer because the interior also shows "No. 264" which matches the piece of tape. Also, the Leviton electrical switch and cord are in great working condition. One of the photos show that the bulb is still working. However, the bulb may need replaced sooner or later as it is the one that apparently came with the lab. The left side of this gorgeous Porter Microscope Lab has a sticker that says, "PORTER Made in U.S.A.". The bottom edge shows this gorgeous Microscope Lab to be from "THE PORTER CHEMICAL CO., HAGERSTOWN, MD."

The interior shows this lab to include an "All-Metal Electric Microscope" which obviously refers to the electrical cord that holds the bulb. According to the interior information, this microscope magnifies up to 750 times 75 - 125 - 180 - 250 - 325 - 400 - 500 - 750.

Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting may cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual.

There are two rectangular-shaped glass slides included. Also, there are three aluminum instruments and/or tools for handling and/or adjustments. The black exterior of the metal microscope appears to be anodized. The round plastic knobs move the shaft eyepiece up and down. This may need some lubrication since it has mainly been in storage all these years. In one of the small boxes there is a litmus-like paper. The other small box includes a row of tiny perforated squares that have a yellowish-beige appearance. On the right side near the top there is an additional zoom lens with an "HIGH X" sticker on the side.

There are some scratches on the case and small bent area on the back top edge that is hardly noticeable. Other than this, there are no breaks, crack, dents, crushed areas, or repair places on this gorgeous Porter Microcraft Microscope Lab. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on and/or in the case and microscope mainly in the form of rub marks from coming in contact with something else. There is some aged patina developing on the interior and exterior of the case and/or contents. Some of the stickers show wear and/or age and may be a little loose around the edges depending on the sticker. There is some wear on the case where the color has come off - mainly on the edges and just below the latch. The chrome latch and aluminum piano-style hinge are in great working condition.

Please note that the contents (including parts on the microscope) may or may not be in working condition and may need to be replaced - items such as is necessary to complete certain experiments. The lens appear to be intact. However, one of the lens' appears to have some debris between the glass. Also, while the contents are not dirty per-say, they may need a careful wiping over just to remove any dust and/or debris from storage and/or shipping. In addition, some of the contents may be removed from the interior case and wrapped separately then laid in the box for shipping. Hence, they may not be installed in their particular slots upon arrival.

The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous Porter Microcraft Microscope Lab are many. The entryway or display cabinet would be enhanced by the addition of this beautiful blue and black mid-century atomic decoration. Also, the man-cave or school-room would welcome this awesome Microscope Lab for its vibrant industrial-educational charm. In addition, the growing instrument collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this gorgeous mid-century atomic-style Microscope Lab.

The collector will appreciate this super neat mid-century Microscope Lab for its very good condition, vibrant industrial-educational charm, and overall vintage appearance.

The mid-century Porter Microcraft Microscope Lab in the case weighs approximately 65.0 oz.

The gorgeous Porter Science Microscope Lab metal case measures 11.5" tall x 8.5" wide box only or approximately 9" wide including the latch and hinge x 4.5" deep.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
