The collectible hardback Thomas B. Costain historical biography book "William The Conqueror" is in very good decorative condition. This particular book is one in a series of World Landmark Books. While this is categorized as a children's book, the information is still extensive covering all the way up to the last chapter entitled "The Last Years". Also, there are illustrations in gold and black throughout the book provided by Jack Coggins. The book has eighteen chapters plus an index. The front of this gray hardback book has a green and reddish purple weather-vane style compass around the title "William The Conqueror". This is a 1959 First Printing Random House New York historical biography book "Manufactured in the United States of America".
William the Conqueror was the first Duke of Normandy and the first Norman King of England. He reigned from 1066 until his death is 1087.
There is no dust-jacket with this book.
There is a card section taped in the back that we did not want to remove for fear of tearing the inner covering. Also, there are some wear places near the outer edge of the page opposite the page with only "William The Conqueror" on it. The front side of the page has the map of the United States. One of the pictures shows this area but in the picture it appears to be dark ink. However, the background is making it dark as they are actually holes and wear - only on that page. They appear as either holes or thin places on the outer edge all the way down the page nearly straight up and down as if something was once stuck there and then removed pulling some of the paper with it. While we did not check every single page, it appears this is the only page in this condition.
Other than this there are no tears, water damages, bad odors, or repair places on this collectible hardback book. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub places on the book - mainly on the edges and cover where the book has been handled. Also, there are some areas of discoloration on the covers - mainly from handling and/or storage.
The decorative possibilities for this gray hardback "William The Conqueror" book are many. The library or study would be enhanced by the addition of this 1959 First Edition book. Also, the coffee or end-table would welcome this very vintage hardback book for its gorgeous compass accent. In addition, the growing collection of old books would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this particular 1959 World Landmark book.
The collector will appreciate this collectible hardback book for its very good condition, First Printing edition, and particular subject matter - "William The Conqueror".
The collectible hardback Thomas B. Costain historical biography book "William The Conqueror" weighs 14.0 oz.
The 1959 World Landmark Books collectible measures 8.5" in length x 5 7/8" wide x 7/8" thick.

If you are from outside the United States and you wish to purchase this product put in your correct address and it should populate a quote. If a shipping cost cannot be populated outside of the United States it is possible that the item is too big to be shipped or it is listed for local pickup only. However, please check with me to make sure as sometimes there could be system errors. If you have further questions concerning shipping outside of the USA please contact me.
***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
