The beautiful enamel-on-brass carved Mexico wall-hanging plate is in great to excellent condition. There are so many details on this gorgeous collectible plate that are worth pointing out. The enamel is very fresh and vibrant. Also, the carved relief work on this plate is absolutely stunning. There is beautifully aged patina developing on the plate with a couple of distress places near the top of the gold-colored section. The gold-colored section highlights the depiction of native Indians on a journey toward an eagle perched over a large body of water on the outer rim and the Mayan Calendar depicted in the center. Also, the outer rim depiction of actual people is very unique on this particular plate. Many similar depictions of the Mayan Calendar have some type of scroll-work around the outer rim area essentially used to point attention inward to the center of the plate. However, the depiction of natives on a journey appears to also have a very significant cultural meaning.
While there may be better academically sound descriptions of the outer rim theme, there are a few things that are very straightforward. First, there appear to be two groups heading toward a blue body of water that has the eagle perched just above. According to references, the eagle sign was the most powerful in Mayan culture symbolizing the coming together of the Sun and Moon. Second, one group is being led by what appears to be a ruler. The other group is being led by what appears to be the ruler's wife. Third, the natives depicted on the outer rim are not commoners. The ornately carved relief along with the rich colors are extremely detailed. The natives depicted have different head dresses, clothing, and weapons/staffs. Finally, not only is the native depiction very significant, but the actual locations from which they travel are also different. One group is journeying away from a city with three pyramids, while the other is leaving a city with only two pyramids. Also, the group following the ruler has more of an entourage located in more of a swampy bog type area as depicted by the natives wading up to their chest.
The wall-hanger is already installed on the back of the plate. It has a small metal ring made into a leather mount.
There are no breaks, bends, or repair places on this gorgeous Mexico wall-hanging plate. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub places on this gorgeous Mexico wall-hanging plate - mainly in the form of developing patina. There are two distressed places in the gold-colored section above the top of the Mayan Calendar that appear to be surface chips.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous Mexico wall-hanging decoration are many. The entryway or living room area would be enhanced by the addition of this beautiful Mexico plate. Also, the office or study would welcome this very ornate decoration for its colorfully detailed subject matter. In addition, the growing native Indian collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this rare, stunningly detailed, and culturally significant collectible wall-hanging plate.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous Mexico wall-hanging collectible plate for its great to excellent condition, ornate relief work, vibrant color scheme, cultural significance, and particular subject matter.
The beautiful enamel-on-brass carved Mexico wall-hanging plate weighs 10.1 oz.
The round brass Mayan Calendar wall-hanging plate measures 11 1/16" across from outside to outside x approximately 3/8" deep.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
