The gorgeous cedar keepsake/jewelry box is in very good to great condition. This is an incredibly rare find because it has a working lock with two keys. The heart-shaped lock has "Made in Japan" on the back. Given the heart-shape and small size of the lock, it is highly likely that it was the original lock that came with the box as it is very hard to find locks that fit through these particular closures. Also, this particular cedar jewelry box has a very unique brass closure on the front. While most front closures are plain with no decoration, the front brass closure on this box has what appears to be an Art Deco motif on the top and bottom sections of the front brass closure. The metal fasteners appear to be brass. The brass hinges are in great working condition. The hinges are press-in where a little lip on the fastener pushes into the wood to secure it in place. This helps keep down stress on the wood gives it a much cleaner appearance instead of having the heads of screws sticking out on such a smaller box. In addition, the bottom of this gorgeous wooden keepsake box has matching raised feet on each corner to keep the box above surfaces. From our experience, it is rare to have all four wooden feet fully intact on older boxes like this one.
This is a smaller version of a cedar storage chest. There is no lining on the interior except for an intact mirror on the underside of the lid. There is a thin narrow piece of gold colored trim around the mirror that appears to be made from a very sturdy cardboard.
The stain on this beautiful wooden jewelry box is more of a clear or shellac instead of a stain that has a darker pigment. In addition, while the back side of the box appears to have been purposely made from a different wood than cedar because it is much lighter, the interior matches the rest of the box.
The carved relief on the top of this cedar keepsake box is simply beautiful. The oval picture in the middle appears to be a decoupage of an English countryside shire motif.
There is a small surface chip on the front left corner. Also, there is a tiny hairline crack at the back right of the box. However, it does not go all the way through to the back and it appears to be from where the wood was put together. Other than this, there are no breaks, cracks, deep chips, or repair marks on this beautiful cedar keepsake/jewelry box. There is an area of residue on the front where tape was once stuck. While it is possible this could be removed, we did not want to risk harming the beautiful finish. There are some vintage wear and rub marks on the box. The beautiful brass hardware has a tad bit of developing patina. The mirror is intact and has no cracks or breaks. There are some signs of age and use on the mirror - the pictures may or may not show this as they are slight and barely noticeable from a normal distance. That being said, this is one of the cleanest - if not the cleanest - mirror that we have come across on the inside of any similar style and age jewelry boxes.
The decorative possibilities for this beautiful wooden keepsake box are many. The entryway or accent table would welcome this beautiful box to hold keys, coins, watches, and/or jewelry. Also, the vanity or dresser would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeous cedar treasure for its Art Deco brass front and clean intact usable mirror. There is just something wonderful about having a cedar box especially one in a smaller size which allows it to easily fit on a nightstand or side table. In addition, the working lock and keys make this a much rarer collectible as it is very hard to find locks with these boxes - even more so - locks that actually work.
The collector will appreciate this beautiful cedar keepsake/jewelry box for its very good to great condition, clean usable mirror, working lock w/ keys, and English countryside shire motif.
The gorgeous cedar wood jewelry/keepsake box weighs 23.5 oz.
The rectangular shaped wooden storage box measures 9 5/8" in length x 5 7/16" wide x 3 11/16" tall to the top of the lid.

If a shipping cost cannot be populated outside of the United States it is possible that the item is too big to be shipped or it is listed for local pickup only. However, please check with me to make sure as sometimes there could be system errors. If you have further questions concerning shipping outside of the USA please contact me.
***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
