The gorgeous arched-top rattan decorative book-shelf is in very good to great condition. The bookcase has a total of four shelves - three of which are removable. The bottom shelf is fixed. The beautiful wrapped rattan frame is accented and brought together with a criss-cross design. Also, the golden brown appearance of the rattan gives off an overwhelming tropical-bohemian vibe. The moment eye contact is made with this gorgeous rattan shelf, the coastal tropical appearance transports our minds to a beach laden with palm trees and waves crashing ashore.
The shelf has a metal screw on the front of the arch at the top that was most likely used to hang something from or to possibly guide a decorative lighting strip. The screw can be removed with a simply four-way screwdriver.
Please note that even though this shelf is described as a "book-shelf" or "bookcase" it was not designed to support a bunch of thick hardback academic books. The reference to "book-shelf" or "bookcase" is for its overall design and physical appearance. However, the shelves are very sturdy and will certainly hold some books ( an entire row or two of paperback Harlequin Romance books).
The shelves simply sit in place. There are wooden side pieces running from the back to the front that not only help hold the shelves in place, but also provide support for the overall frame. Also, the wrapped rattan frame is actually solid wood. There has been some serious craftsmanship go into the making of this gorgeous rattan shelf. Also, while its hard to see the frame under the wrapped rattan, the bent-wood frame of the arched-top took a lot of skill and patience.
There are two white plastic feet on one side of the bottom of the shelf. The other side does not have the feet. While they can easily be removed, we felt it best to leave them in place in case the shelf needs some leveling up once it is put in its resting place.
The shelf has been lightly cleaned to remove any dust that might be hiding in the crevices and corners. In the pictures one will can notice that the shelf has some tiny gaps toward the top shelves where the sides are a little wider apart near the top shelf. Rattan shelving in particular has a certain amount of flex that is especially evident on larger pieces because the distance between the bracing is greater. While the flex in the front area at the top shelf could be easily fixed by permanently attaching the top shelf to the side frames, we thought it might later be preferable to remove the top shelf altogether - especially to hold taller pieces such as a vase or framed artwork.
While there are some places where the the rattan has either ended or where a thin criss-cross piece has broken or cracked, there are no breaks or loose pieces in the solid wood framing of this gorgeous arched-top rattan shelf. In other words, this shelf is firmly held together and very well made. While there are some little places where the end of the rattan wrap might be a tad-bit loose, overall the wrapped rattan looks to be in very good to great condition. Furthermore, loose ends are consistent on older wrapped-rattan pieces. There are no bad odors or repair places on this gorgeous rattan book-shelf. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks - mainly on the bottom or edges where they have come in contact with other surfaces or have been transported.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous arched rattan wooden shelf are only limited to the imagination. The entryway or living area would be enhanced by the addition of this beautiful rattan wooden shelf. While this shelf would fit in perfectly with a nautical, tropical-coastal, or Bohemian decorative theme, it is important to be bold and try something different. In other words, in a very big way and possibly now more than ever, "clashing" is in. Even more important is the fact that rattan (like many Mid-Century and Antique pieces) gets respect if its one piece among many or if its a lone rattan shelf in the midst of a dining room full of Elizabethan cherry furniture. In one way, rattan has a broader acceptability than Mid-Century or Antique pieces - mainly because rattan is so easily acquainted with fun times at the beach such as weddings and being on vacation with the family. Also, this would be a great decorative shelf for a bedroom or bath area. The depth of this gorgeous shelf allows it to work well in narrow traffic areas and cramped wall and floor spaces. In addition, this beautiful golden brown rattan wooden shelf would make a great addition to a man-cave or study. The open airy design of this gorgeous shelf either allows it to look smaller than it actually is or it makes the room appear bigger due to the open criss-cross exterior.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous arched-top wooden rattan shelf for its very good to great condition and dominant tropical bohemian appearance.
The gorgeous arched rattan decorative book-shelf weighs approximately 19 pounds.
The tall arched-top rattan bookcase measures approximately 59.25" tall x 23" wide x approximately 12.25" deep.
The shelves measure approximately 12 1/8" deep.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
