Vintage Apothecary Jar, Glenshaw Glass Canister, Dakota Style, Kitchen Decoration, Countertop Storage, Home Decor, Candy Holder, 2.5 Quarts

$78.80 $98.50

The gorgeous clear glass apothecary jar and lid are in great condition. In addition to its larger size, the clear glass storage canister has a wide-mouth opening for easier retrieval of those favorite cookies. Concerning its appearance, the bottom has a slightly golden tint in the thicker glass. According to references, this particular design can sometimes be referred to as a Dakota style. Apothecary jars in this shape were very popular when penny candy stores operated in the early to mid 1900's. The design allows for better storage of multiple jars so the different colors of candies could be evenly displayed.

Please note that the coffee mug in the pictures was used for scale purposes only and is not included in this listing.

This gorgeous clear glass storage canister holds a liquid capacity of 10 Cups - 80 Ounces - 2.5 Quarts. The lid does not have a seal - if it originally came with one.

The bottom of this gorgeous and large clear glass apothecary jar has a big "G" on the glass. According to references, the particular design is consistent with the Glenshaw Glass Company of Pennsylvania. Another design for their "G" lettering was with the letter surrounded by a square. While there are a couple of other candidates the "G" could be pointing toward, their overall designs and coloring. Furthermore, the Glenshaw Glass Company started making larger glass storage jars and containers circa 1912. In addition to the "G" on the bottom, there is a "14K 4" grouped to the above left of the "G". These are most likely dating codes as was the popular practice of early glass makers.

There are some very shallow surface chips on the inner part of the rim - except for a dot-size spot - they are part of the same .5" place and are actually more similar to rough glass than an actual chip because their thickness is almost paper thin - barely visible in the photos of the rim area. Also, there is a little dot-size chip on the inner part of the rim of the lid. Other than these, there are no breaks, crack, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous clear glass apothecary jar. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the this beautiful canister - mainly on the bottom where it has come in contact with different surfaces.

The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous clear glass storage canister are many. The kitchen counter top or open storage shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this beautiful clear glass treasure. Also, the display case would welcome this gorgeous clear glass canister for storing colorful decorative pieces such as marbles, seashells, sewing collectibles, buttons, or virtually any item that could fit through the wide-mouth opening. In addition, its multipurpose storage capabilities and clear appearance makes this large glass apothecary jar a great choice for the office, study, or craft room.

The collector will appreciate this gorgeous clear glass apothecary jar for its great condition, larger storage capacity, and clean overall appearance.

The gorgeous clear glass apothecary jar with lid weighs 51.6 oz.

The large Glenshaw Glass Company Dakota style glass canister measures 10" tall to the top of the lid and 8.25" tall to the top of the rim.

The rim measures 4.25" wide across from outside to outside and 3 13/16" across from inside to inside.

The clear glass canister measures 5 13/16"" wide x 4 5/8" deep.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.

***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.

***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.

***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.

***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.

***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.

***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.

***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.

***The year of manufacturing or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.

***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.

***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.

***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
