The two rare antique Persian-inspired copper vases are in great condition. These gorgeous copper vases have elaborate scrollwork around the top rim. While much of the scrollwork is worn on one of the the rims, it is still discernible. The heavily embossed and hammered decorations on these gorgeous copper "Bird's of Paradise" vases are accented with black in the background of the relief work.
According to references, copper is not magnetic. However, brass is slightly attracted to a magnet. When tested with a high power jeweler's magnet, the vases were not magnetic. The photos show that there are gold colored places on the exterior of each of these vases. At first, they were believed to have been covered with a copper-like paint and the color had simply worn away. However, the places that are gold in color are believed to be brass. The gold color is crudely following seams that are only visible on the interior of each vase. There is an interior seam on the inside of the vase at the same location as the horizontal gold color shows up on the face of the embossed artwork. In addition, each vase has a vertical seam that has some gold color crudely running upward toward the rim. Hence, the gold color appears in these places because the particular metal used to connect the copper sheets together was gold in color. In essence, they melted or brazed brass in the seams of these beautiful vases.
Each of these gorgeous matching vases are heavily embossed with a "Birds of Paradise" motif inspired by the mythological Huma bird of Persian culture. There are three motifs on each vase. Inside each of the motifs are two birds - one facing the other. While time and wear make some of the details less discernible, under magnification the bird on the left has the distinct Huma bird crest that is portrayed on other Persian Huma bird renderings. The bird on the right does not appear to have the crest which could signify one is a male and the other female. Between the three "Birds of Paradise" motifs, there appears to be trees laden with fruit as depicted by their tiny dots.
One of the vases have a little ping-like place on the bottom edge of its base. It is very slight and hardly noticeable unless inspected up close with a light. In addition, the little place could have happened when the vase was made. Other than this, are no breaks, cracks, or dents on these vases. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub places on these gorgeous vases - mainly due to their age and handling. Also, the pictures show a developing verdigris on the vases - mainly on the inside of each base. While we could not capture a photo of the interiors of each vase due to lighting, each copper vase has a light to heavy amount of verdigris developing on the inside. The one that had the least verdigris had more remnants of a black color that most likely came from the vases being dipped when they were originally made.
The decorative possibilities for these beautiful antique copper vases are many. The display case or china cabinet would be enhanced by the addition of these gorgeous copper treasures. Also, the entryway or living area would welcome these beautiful copper collectibles for their ornate and elaborate motifs. In addition, the growing vase collection would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of these gorgeous antique copper vases.
The collector will appreciate these beautiful antique copper vases for their great condition, particular subject matter, and gorgeous artisan-ship.
Together, these rare antique Persian Huma bird copper vases weigh 30.8 oz.
Each antique copper vase measures 9 1/8" tall x 4" wide across the widest pat of the center section.
Each base measures approximately 2 15/16" wide across from outside to outside - there is tiny bit of discrepancy (maybe 1/16" or less) when measuring from side to side one way versus measuring from side to side the other way.
Each rim measures approximately 2 7/8" wide across from outside to outside with a very little discrepancy.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of manufacturing or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
