The gorgeous milk-jug shaped pottery floor vase/umbrella holder/planter is in great condition. The colors on this beautiful jug are purplish blue, dark blue, and white. There is a seam on the side running from the top to the bottom. These are sometimes consistent with larger pottery pieces. However, the particular seam on this larger floor vase further gives the impression that this is a hand-thrown piece of pottery. The larger size, unique motif, and purplish blue and white colors make this a very rare piece of pottery. While smaller ceramic milk cans are plentiful, older jugs in a larger size are becoming harder to find.
Please note that the coffee mug in the pictures was used for scale purposes only and is not included with this listing.
The theme on the side of this beautiful ceramic floor vase appears to be a French Villa with its castle-like structure placed at the end of a dark and shadowy lane surrounded by large canopy trees both in the front and in the foreground. Above the beautiful setting there are birds painted in much darker blue. Given the overall appearance of this gorgeous planter, it is highly likely this beautiful pottery treasure was hand thrown by a very skilled artisan. Larger versions of these are harder to handle as they are being prepared for firing and color. However, the maker was meticulous in giving just a stroke of purplish blue so that it would not be too heavy. Then, the individual outlined the softer purple colors with a darker blue.
As far as we can tell, there are no marks for identification on the bottom of this gorgeous jug. However, there are some markings directly in front of the castle that appear to stand out to some degree. While it is possible they could simply be portraying a brick entryway, they could also be a mark left by the artisan.
There are some imperfections and/or age marks on this gorgeous floor vase. While the interior is finished, there are some shavings or small pieces under the color and glaze. Also, there are some little indentations on the vase - mainly on the outer edge of the base. They are not chips as they have color and/or glaze over them. There is some crackling going on under the glaze. These are tiny hair-like lines that are not from damage but age and original materials used. There is a tiny line-crack on the outer edge of the rim that does not run through to the inside. While it is hard to say for sure, it is likely due to aging or stress of the material. In addition, there is another tiny line-crack at the top that has a slight brush of clear over it. This was most likely a small place that was covered for prevention as much as repair.
Other than the places just noted, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair places on this gorgeous ceramic pottery floor vase. There are some vintage wear and rub marks on the milk-jug shaped vase - mainly on the bottom where it has come in contact with different surfaces.
The decorative possibilities for this beautiful French Villa/castle in the woods theme floor vase are many. The entryway would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeous pottery treasure either as a tall floor vase/planter or as a warm and welcoming umbrella holder. In addition, the dining room or living room would welcome this larger ceramic jug as a stand-alone decoration or to hold a beautiful arrangement of seasonal flowers. Another great idea would be to turn this large floor vase around and use the white of the opposite side as a very clean, bright, and contemporary decoration.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous ceramic pottery floor vase for its great condition and unique overall appearance.
The gorgeous purplish blue and white pottery floor vase weighs 160.3 oz.
The large pottery vase/planter measures 17 5/8" tall x 7 1/8" wide across the rim from outside to outside x approximately 9 1/8" wide across the base from outside to outside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of manufacturing or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
