The Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar is in great condition. In the pictures, one can notice there are waves and bubbles in the glass. This is a dropped "A" Atlas E-Z Seal pint jar. This particular jar has a very faint gray tone to its clear color. This bottle is offered here as a decorative collectible glass jar. This appears to be one of their older versions as it does not have the HA mark on the bottom. According to references, the mark began to be used in approximately 1923.
This pint-size jar has a rare bump bottom that is so prevalent that it can actually be felt and seen when holding the bottom up to a light.
The jar has some smaller bubbles - mainly in the valley where the larger bottom section moves up into the shoulder area. The bottom also has waves in the glass that are in the form of circles. In addition, there is a number 5 and an "E" on the bottom of this beautiful glass jar.
A very unique feature about this jar can be seen in the tiny scar lines running from the bottom and up the sides. They look very similar to a very flat and tiny wrinkle in the glass. These are very unique as they run vertically from top to bottom; whereas, many of the older Atlas E-Z Seal jars we have had experience with have mostly horizontal wavy lines. Also, the jar is very peculiar because of the sand grit in or near the shoulder area. This is the first we have found to have this much grit in the shoulder area of the glass.
The metal bale that folds down allows the top to be removed very quickly - hence the term "lightning". All of the letters are raised. There are seams down the sides of the jar.
There is no dome lid or rubber seal with this jar. According to references, the lid on this jar is predominantly found on Atlas Strong Shoulder jars. However, there is at least one reference that showed this style of lid going under a dome-shaped bale lid with a gasket underneath. While the metal bale has signs of wear and age and is in rusty condition, it is still intact. However, when the bale is closed the lid still has slack and will move on the rim.
There are some small chips on the outside outer edge of the rim where a lid would normally cap over. Other than these, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or repair marks on this gorgeous glass collectible. There are some vintage wear and rub marks on this glass jar - mainly on the base where it sits. The lid has some wear on the inside of the underside shoulder that sticks down. However, it is possible it was from the maker as simply a raw glass edge. The metal bale has a developing rusty patina giving it a uniquely aged appearance. The jar has been cleaned inside and out. However, we did not remove the metal bale so there is still a tad bit of rust and/or cloudy-look under the wire around the neck. It is very faint unless the jar is pulled up very close and inspected in the light.
The decorative possibilities for this gorgeous Atlas E-Z Seal glass lightning jar are many. The china cabinet or display curio would be enhanced by the addition of this gorgeous lightning jar. Also, the display or shadow box shelf in the kitchen would welcome this beautiful glass treasure. In addition, the growing Hazel Atlas collection would welcome this beautiful glass jar for its dropped A design, vertical scar lines, bump bottom, and pre-1923 age.
The collector will appreciate this gorgeous Atlas E-Z Seal lightning jar for its beautiful appearance and great condition.
The beautiful Atlas E-Z Seal lightning jar weighs 13.4 oz.
The Atlas canning jar measures 5 3/8" tall to the top of the glass EDJ Seal lid and approximately 5.25" tall to the top of the rim x approximately 3 3/16" wide across the top from outside to outside and 2.25" wide from inside to inside x 3 3/8" wide across the base from outside to outside.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. However please note that after shipping we recommend all items be cleaned thoroughly before use. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of manufacturing or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with a regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
